The open house will be Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Yankton Chamber & Visitors Center located at 803 E. 4th St. Light refreshments are being provided by Southeast South Dakota Chapter Society of Human Resource Management (SE SD SHRM).

The Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce Agri-Business committee announced the 2010 Promoting Agricultural Youth (P.A.Y.) Scholarship winner. Ryan Guthmiller, graduated from Yankton High School this past spring and was awarded the $500 scholarship at the June 22 Ag Gala event. He plans to attend South Dakota State University and major in Animal Science with a minor in Agricultural Business. Ryan is the son of Kevin Guthmiller and Diane Guthmiller.

The volunteer 4th of July committee is kicking off the 2010 Fireworks Fund Drive for the annual celebration in Yankton. This year as in the past, the biggest event of the day will be the “shooting off” of the fireworks in the evening on Sunday, July 4 beginning around 10 p.m. The fireworks will be discharged from the Mueller property on the Nebraska side due to the renovation construction underway on the Meridian Bridge.

On April 22 the Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce conducted their first webinar session. Pat Garrity, Zoning Administrator for Yankton County, presented a PowerPoint presentation of the Highway 52 Development Project. Eleven businesses participated in the webinar that was hosted at the Technical Education Center. The program was taped and is available for viewing by clicking www.yanktonsd.com/webinars. This webinar is the first in what will be a regular series of informational and educational on-line meetings for members. |

Chamber of Commerce’s across the state of South Dakota are experiencing an advertising sales scam.
A group called “Premier Map” was in Mobridge, SD several weeks ago claiming to be the official sales team for the Yellowstone Trail Guide. This same company is currently calling businesses in Aberdeen trying to sell ads for the official city guide, Aberdeen and Brown County map. Since they have moved through two committees it is believed that they may continue through the state. |
